Art

Tiny Tots Art (2– 3 years and caregiver)
Let’s explore Art! Your child will explore art through many mediums including; tempera paint, watercolor, pastels, collage, clay, and more. This will be an exciting time of discovery and creativity for your child. Your little artist will also create an original work of art which will be displayed at a “gallery showing”. This will be an evening event for friends and family of the artist to show their support.

Puppet Pal Art (3 – 5 years, caregiver optional)
In this wonderfully creative and fun art class, children will use classic stories as inspiration for creating puppets. They will be exposed to a variety of mediums of art and puppet making including sock puppets, shadow puppets, finger puppets and more. In addition to creating an original puppet each child will contribute to the group project, a backdrop which will be used to act out the featured story. Aside from the fun and creativity, this class teaches beginning reading skills such as retelling and sequencing.

Artful Planet (3 - 5 years, caregiver optional)
In this unique art class, students will use recyclable materials to create works of art! The students' creativity will be challenged as they use their imagination to create beautiful and functional art from everyday objects. Along with the creativity and artistic expression, each class will focus on recycling and how we can protect our natural resources.

Dance 

Tiny Tots Ballet (2 - 3 years and caregiver)
This 30 minute class explores fundamental movement, coordination, and musicality while exposing the young dancer to ballet basics. At the end of the session your dancer will be able to use both sides of their body, clap and jump to the rhythm, and identify 10 + ballet terms in French. The class setting helps young children establish routine, follow instructions, and to use their body creatively all in a fun learning environment. The last class will include a parent preview where you are invited to come see what your little one has learned!

Tap/Rythm (3 - 5 years and caregiver)
This 45 minute class introduces rhythm and musicality to your dancer while encouraging the use of both fine and gross motor skills. Your tapper will learn basic tap technique, be able to move to the beat, and follow choreography. This class includes movement from multiple genres of dance to excite the young dancer and use the skill set appropriate for their development. The last class will include a parent preview where you are invited to come see what your little tapper has learned!

Hip Hop Dance (6 - 10 years)
Your child won't be able to stop moving to the funky beat of Hip Hop. This class will incorporate beginning moves that will teach your child the fundamentals of Hip Hop Dance. The children will also have the opportunity to explore their own creativity and sense of style while learning to dance to a standard 8 count. Eventually they will put together several 8 counts to create a dance! This class is scheduled with the home schooled student in mind.

Fitness and Fun!


Move and Groove (2 - 4 years and caregiver)
Imagination, music and lots of silly fun! In this class the children will move their bodies, raise their heart rates and get their daily dose of sillies. We will run, jump, march, "swim", twirl, "drive" hop, skip, "fly"...anything to get our bodies and imaginations moving with the beat of the songs. Each sessions songs are specific to the listed theme.

Kindergarten Readiness

Kindergarten Readiness I, II, III and IV (3 – 5 years)
During these four consecutive and progressive course the students will develop important Kindergarten Readiness skills in a fun and nurturing environment. These skills include: letter and number recognition, fine motor development, classifying, sorting, comparing, patterns, visual discrimination, predicting, story re-telling and graphing. The class will focus on recognition and tracing of both upper and lower case letters. The children will master the independent formation of both upper and lower case letters, learn to combine letters to form words and understand the concepts of vowels and consonants.
Number development will begin with counting and number recognition and move into beginning addition and subtraction.

Creative Writing (10 - 13 Years)
This more advanced and in-depth creative writing class will also focus on the creativity of writing. Each student will be encouraged to use their own interests, passions, and talents to create original pieces of writing. Children will work on the fundamentals of writing including spelling, grammar, and fundamental structure. This course will culminate in each student binding their writing into an original book.

Literary and Cultural Analysis (10 - 13 Years)
This cross-curricular class offers an experiential overview of a historic time period through literary analysis and in-depth coverage of social studies, geography and cultural arts.  Each session we will read a book on many "must read" lists. We will novel focusing on vocabulary, comprehension, character analysis, plot development, setting and author's purpose.  To further enrich and engage the students, we will explore: the geography of the setting; experience the tastes and sounds of the culture; and learn of the customs and cultural beliefs of the time. As we delve into each novel, the students will write poetry, make journal entries, and create their own newspaper.  They will also reenact scenes from the novel to give them a feel for what is was like to like to live in that place and time. Some of these projects will require out of class research and homework.  All materials including the novel and journal are included in the class fees.

Sensational Sentences and Perfect Paragraphs (6 - 9 Years)
This class will focus on the techniques needed to write sensational sentences and eventually perfect paragraphs.  We will address writing conventions, correct grammar usage, and descriptive vocabulary. Using the writing process (pre-writing, drafting, revising, proofreading and publishing/sharing) the students will learn about topic sentences, supporting details, "hooking the reader" and thought provoking concluding sentences. We will introduce the four writing domains: narrative, expressive, persuasive, and informative. They will also learn the important writing devices of alliteration, metaphor, simile, sensory details, onomatopoeia, and personification. Students will be exposed to language rich literature to serve as models and receive constructive feedback to encourage a love of writing. Each session will be unique.

Martial Arts

Martial Arts Discipline (4-7 years and parent)
This course exposes children to a variety of martial arts techniques. The techniques are derived from three major martial arts disciplines. 1. Kenpo – American Kenpo is referred by many simply as Karate and focuses on defense and striking techniques. 2. Tae Kwon Do - TKD comes from Korea and is particularly strong in the area of technical and precise kicking techniques. 3. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) - Although a relatively new martial art, BJJ has been proven highly effective and is very popular amongst today's top martial artists. This discipline focuses on developing of ground techniques and proper falling skills to avoid injury. The physical skills emphasized in this class are; balance, strength, speed and coordination. The character traits explored and encouraged are; respect, humility, integrity and self–discipline.

Mini Bees

The Mini Bees class is designed to give your child a jump start to learning while bridging the time between a toddler's time with his or her caregiver and preschool. The class includes time devoted to: concepts related to each month's theme, art, music and movement, gross and fine motor development, social skills and fun! Music Pups®
(0-5 years and parent)
The Music Pups® program is designed to nurture the musical development of young children. Music Pups will engage children and their parents through music, movement and fun! The use of percussion and rhythm instruments, co-operative bands, balls, scarves, imaginative play and fun songs will create a stimulating music environment for children. Music Pups is designed to accommodate a wide range of ages and offers a wonderful opportunity for siblings of different ages to enjoy a class together! (With one regular priced registration, one sibling may attend at no additional cost; additional siblings may participate at 40% off class fees).

Sunrise® (2 - 3 years and parent/caregiver)
Sunrise™ is an exciting and innovative pre-keyboard preschool music program. Its flexible and innovative format includes singing, rhythm, and ear training through stories, songs, and games. Walking Bear, Standing Bear, Running Bear, and Sleepy Bear help children understand tempo changes and encourage them to explore tempo on rhythm instruments. We use percussion, rhythm and keyboard instruments as well as balls, scarves, and imaginative play to begin mastering basic musical concepts. Each session builds on previous teaching with puppet friends to guide the way. Parent participation is an important part of the Sunrise™ program, enabling parents to continue musical skill-building and exploration beyond the classroom. Students who complete the Sunrise™ program are fully prepared to begin Music for Young Children's Sunshine™ (beginning keyboard) program.

Music (Keyboard Training)
Music for Young Children's® parent participation system of keyboard training classes (Sunshine™, Sunbeams™ and Moonbeams™) motivates and engages both parents and children, nurtures family bonds and delivers valuable co-learning experiences. Both parent and child will develop a firm, fundamental understanding of music while having fun together!

Sunshine™ (3 - 4 years and parent)
This early keyboard training class teaches children keyboard geography, simple melodies and rhythm through the use of fun animal characters. Musical dynamics (piano, forte and (de)crescendos), composition terms, sight readings and ear training are learned. During Each student will submit an original composition into an international competition. While learning concepts in a group setting the children will also receive individual instruction on the piano/keyboard. All students who complete the course will be invited to participate in performances throughout the year.

Moonbeams™ (6 - 9 years and parent)
This keyboard training class teaches children keyboard geography and sight reading through the use of sports analogies. Three basic dynamics; piano, forte and (de)crescendos are introduced in addition to basic composition terms. Ear training (music patterns, high vs. low notes, meter identification, basic intervals and rhythm identification) will be emphasized. Each student will submit a composition into an international competition. The third installment of the Moonbeams™1 class continues with sight reading and adds additional ear training including; tempo identification, major vs. minor key identification and trip rhythms. Students will be introduced to classical composers. While learning concepts in a group setting the children will also receive individual instruction on the piano/keyboard. All students who complete the course will be invited to participate in performances throughout the year.

This hands-on class is designed to channel children's natural curiosity towards the world of science. Each meeting promises to encourage children's inquisitive minds in a fun, interactive environment as they learn to explore the world of science all around them. Our goal is to foster "scientist" within each child.

Exploring the Solar System (7 – 10 years)
Through hands-on experiments and activities the students will learn about the planets in our solar system as well as the different phases of the moon. They will explore astronomy and the different constellations as well as demonstrate knowledge of revolution, rotate and orbit as it relates to our solar system. There will be fun projects to take home to further spark their interest in the fascinating topic of the solar system. This class follows the California State Standards in Earth Science and is scheduled with the home schooled student in mind.

States of Matter
(7 – 10 years)
In this hands on class, students will participate in activities and experiments which will help them explore the different states of matter; solid, liquid, and gas. They will also learn about the water cycle and the unique properties of water as well as experiment with compounds and mixtures. The students will observe, predict and finally experiment with different elements to see which make good mixtures and which do not. This class follows the California State Standard for Physical Science and is scheduled with the home schooled student in mind.

Weather (7 – 10 years)
In this fun filled class, the students will delve further into the water cycle and how it relates to weather. They will study clouds, high and low pressure, and how that determines our weather. The students will practice the skills of observation, meaningful questioning, and conducting careful investigations. This exciting class includes many experiments that the children will love! This class follows the California State Standard for Earth Science and is scheduled with the home schooled student in mind.

Oceans (7 – 10 years)
Through fun games and activities, the students will study echolocation, erosion, and answer the question, "Why is the ocean salty?". They will also learn about waves and how they are produced. The students will each make his or her own mini ocean to take home; complete with waves and fun sea shells. This exciting class follows the California State Standards in Earth and Life Science.

Spanish

Bilingual Families (Parents and their children 18 months – 2 years)
Even before your baby speaks he or she can begin to learn Spanish! Parents will learn how they can help lay the foundation of a second language while having fun with their tot! Parents and babies will learn basic Spanish using repetitive songs, nursery rhymes and puppets. This class will be fun and educational for both babies and caregivers. Each 6 session series is unique.

Little Linguists (3 – 5 years)
Using traditional circle time, your little one will learn basic Spanish through imaginative play, props, manipulatives and songs. This class will have your little one learning the Spanish words for things he or she sees and does everyday.
